Caifan Face — Back in high school, I became pretty feverishly obsessed with the music of Caifanes, a Mexican rock band that was very influential in the ’90s. I listened to these songs endlessly and became very aware of the type used on the covers, which I found very distinctive. After a long dormancy period, I returned to these letterforms to take a stab at designing a display typeface based on these forms. Below is the final specimen, some lyrics typeset after the work had been generated in fontself, and a peek at some of the studies done throughout the process. I wrote a little more about the process here.
